Hot Tub Ozone Is On The Rise, But What Is It?

How-Does-Ozone-workHot tub companies are including ozone generators more frequently in their hot tubs, and it has become a major selling point for some manufacturers. If you are in the market for a hot tub or have a hot tub without ozone, you may be wondering what ozone really is, and why it’s so great for sanitation.

Ozone is the combination of three oxygen atoms. This combination of atoms is unstable and cannot last very long in any environment. The third oxygen atom is loosely bound, and it breaks apart when it comes in contact with contaminants, thereby destroying the contaminants. The ozone generator that you attach to the hot tub is what creates these unstable oxygen molecules, and this generator will run between 4-6 hours per day, continuously destroying contaminants and sanitizing the water.

Because the ozone generator runs throughout the day, everyday, it does a lot of the sanitation work for you. This means that since the ozone is sanitizing the water while your away, you are required to do even less to keep your hot tub water clean when you use it. Using ozone will save you time, and money in the long run!

Another reason people are attracted to ozone is that it offers a form of water sanitation that doesn’t require many chemical additions. Ozone does most of the sanitation, so you only have to add a fraction of the amount of sanitizer you would normally add without sanitizer.
