Hot tubs are a great way to unwind at the end of a busy day or even for heat therapy on tired, sore joints and muscles. If you have the pleasure of owning a hot tub; remember to keep it well maintained by checking chemical levels on a regular basis, and changing the hot tub filter at least yearly.
A hot tub needs to be cleaned and the filter changed just like a swimming pool. The more you use it, the more you need to clean it. If you’re using it daily, you will have to do more maintenance and more cleaning. If you use it less often maintenance can be performed less frequently. As a rule of thumb, check chemical levels and water quality everyday and rinse the filter off on a weekly basis.
Filters can be cleaned and replaced but at the first sign of wear, like the top coming apart from the sides, it’s time to buy a replacement filter. One that’s worn out will not clean the water properly. A dirty filter will affect the flow of water and performance of your hot tub. In fact, a dirty hot tub filter may let unwanted debris into the hot tub pump and damage expensive hot tub parts and cost you tons of money!
There are several filter cleaners available that will extend the life of your filter. One common way to clean the filter is to allow it to set in filter cleaner to loosen the dirt, and then thoroughly rinse the filter before inserting it back into the hot tub. It’s a good idea to have an extra filter on hand to use while you’re cleaning the other one.
Be sure to drain your hot tub about once every three months to clean the shell. Keep the cover clean as well. By keeping these things clean and in good condition you will be able to enjoy your hot tub for years to come. Contact us for more information on hot tub chemicals and filters.
